Restaurants & Bars 11

Just want to say a few good words about Miriam, the Isreali restaurant on Fifth Ave. and Prospect Pl.
There hasn't been much talk about it here in a few months. Four of us had pre-BAM (Mark Morris' incredible 25th Anniversary retrospective) dinner there on Saturday. We called for reservations and told the reservationist about our time considerations (a 7:30 curtain, a ten to fifteen minute walk to BAM).
We were seated promptly and greeted warmly by the owner. Our orders were taken quickly and food served quickly, as well. The barakes, hummus, mediterranean salad and kreplach were enjoyed by all. Our main course, filet of dorade (amazing how many names this fish goes by: mediterranean sea bass, branzino, etc.)
was moist and flavorful. Only complaint is that the dorade was a very small portion (probably about 4 ozs. of precooked fish for $16). Israeli chardonnay by the glass suited us well and complemented our dinner choice.

Miriam looks like a keeper.
