Lunched at Mint Thai Cafe yesterday. Seth Chadwick posted about this place a while ago and I'd forgotten about it until reading his post. I agree about the good food and am happy to support the small local businesses trying to do a good job. I had the Laarb Salad #3(1-5 hotness scale) and it was just perfect for my mouth. Plentiful chicken well-seasoned and accompanied by a large wedge of green cabbage. Very good flavor and heat balance that was perfectly accompanied by beer. My friend had a chicken cashew curry from the lunch special menu that was less successful. The soup was dismal but this has been my experience with most "free" soups in small Thai restaurants. She pronounced her meal "OK but not outstanding".
What really caught our eye was the run-down condition of the room. The walls and ceiling needed a thorough cleaning and new paint. Lots of missing flooring in the Ladies Room. Hope they remedy this quickly but when all the press on the walls of the restaurant still tout it's status as "Best Of ..." from the '93, '94 and '96 NEW TIMES surveys, I doubt that much will change. Sadly, it looks like Mint Thai is chugging along on past glories. I'd love to see some new energy put into this spot so that I could get as excited as I was when it first opened.
