MiniChowdown Report: Chloe's French Cafe, Santa Rosa

Tuesday, the 5th, StephanieSugars, WearyBashful and I met up for a
mini-Chowdown lunch at Chloe's French Cafe in Santa Rosa. Chloe's is in an
unusual location for a cafe - inside an office building..without the signage
out front, you'd think the door led to a conference room.

Once inside, the cafe itself is clean and bright. Also noisy...noise bounces
off the walls very easily, so during busy times, having a quiet conversation
can be an issue. I found the staff is very friendly and helpful.

But on to the important bits...the food. You order at the counter, get a
number to bring to the table, and your food is brought to you. I was
immediately drooling after reading the "today's specials" board out front,
and ordered the 1/2 sammich/bowl of soup lunch deal: a "special croque" which
included chicken and mushrooms, and tomato pistou soup. I love a
good nicoise and didn't see it as a salad option on the menu (just a
sammich) so I asked if I could get it as salad, and was told I could,
and warned that it was pretty large. Asked if they would do a half order,
the woman taking my order checked and said yes. 1/2 sammich, soup, 1/2 salad
and a drink came to around 12 bucks. When the food arrived, I was really
pleased with the portion size. The half-order of salad was large enough that
it made me wonder what a full order looks like! (Pictures in the PlaceLink
page)

Everything was really delicious! The sammich was covered in ooeygooey
cheese, baked perfectly with tasty browned bits, lots of chicken and
mushrooms spilling out when I took a bite. The bread (don't know if they
make it themselves) wasn't soggy and held up well (which is sometimes hard
to do with all the gooey ingredients). It came with a bit of
dressing (to dip your sammich into I guess?) that was tasty, and mustardy.
Very balanced flavours. I much enjoyed the tomato pistou soup...dense tomato-y
flavour, well seasoned, with a good dose of white beans that complimented
the tomatos beautifully. I'm not a big fan of white beans, but I made an
exception for this yummy soup. (: The generous half-order of Nicoise Salad
came with a lovely balsamic dressing and lots of tasty greens, and was
slightly different than what I was expecting...along with the tuna there were sliced sweet onions, diced tomatoes, chopped red peppers and an olive tapanade...the red peppers were surprising to me for some reason, and I was expecting more olives (maybe some whole ones as well)...it was yummy though, and I think next time I'll order it as a sammich. Stephanie shared her chocolate souffle (?)
dessert with us...*drool*...very very tasty...served warm so that the melty
chocolate ganache type filling was spilling out over the cakey
bits...heavenly. The cherry in the middle at the bottom was a nice touch.

I couldn't leave without taking home some pastries from the case...a pear
tart, lemon tart, croissant and one of the chocolate cake/souffle type
things came home with me..and didn't last long at my house! The pear tart
had a surprising layer of cherry somethingorruther (jelly? thickened juice?)
on the bottom, and a nice addition of almond slices as well. The
pear/almond/cherry flavour combo was perfect with a cup of afternoon tea.

I'll let Stephanie and WearyBashful chime in with their take on the place
and what they ordered.

Great prices for delicious food...I'll be back as often as I can!

They do takeout, and have a selection of wines by the glass as well.
