Mimi's opening

Mimi unofficially reopened today at her new location, running the kitchen at the Long Room (right next to Popeye's on Irving Park two doors west of Ashland). She has most of the same lineup of sandwiches, although not all of her supply chains are supplying yet, so not everything's available. For logistics reasons, she says, some of the old sandwiches will probably become occasional specials. (She doesn't want to have to keep mozzarella past its peak, for instance, so once she can gauge interest, she can get enough for a weekend, she said.)

I saw the thread linked below, so I figured some folks would want to know. The Long Room has a decent selection on tap (I found Honker's Ale a little too bitter for the turkey & havarti); Mimi says she'll try to figure out a few suggestions for beer & wine to accompany the sandwiches. She plans to be there from 5 - 11ish pm Fri - Sun, and the official opening is set for the first weekend of August. Although a lot of her old regulars turned up tonight, it's a pretty big place, and we had no trouble getting either a table or, in my friends' case, a parking space right in front. She also had time to catch up with us and give us some of the background behind the closing of her deli, which I'll leave to her discretion, but anyone who went there knows she loves to tell stories. My friends and I were regulars at the Deli, going there nearly every Friday night for more than 2 1/2 years, so we're very happy that she's back and in good form.
