midwestern mom's birthday!

My parents are going to be in SF for Mothers Day and my mom's birthday. I live in NYC, but we are from St Louis, MO. My parents are very midwestern. I want to send them a gift certificate to a restaurant (or other cool experience) so that they will get it when they check into their hotel.

They don't care for Asian food. Also, my dad is deathly allergic to shellfish-- it's okay if the restaurant serves it, but they can't cook it out in the open so that he can smell it. I wanted to get them a gift card to the Stinking Rose, but one of their big menu items is "Sizzling platter of shrimp/scallops/etc." The smell alone would put dad in the hospital. I don't necessarily want a place with a "scene," but I would like them to go somewhere different than what they have in St Louis.

I'm looking to get them a $40 or $50 gift certificate, and I'd like for that amount to cover 2 entrees.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Susan
