There are 3 of us, it's for tonight, and we aren't looking to spend a million bucks. One of us is a vegetarian. The trouble is in finding a place that's not just a counter with two tiny tables. Two of us are originally from the Detroit metro area of Michigan, which has the highest concentration of Middle Eastern people in the world, outside of the Middle East. (We're used to more M.E. restaurants than steakhouses, sushi, and thai combined.) We're not looking for killer atmosphere, just adequate space in a sit-down restaurant with friendly service. Falafel platters, pilaf, toum, baba, kibbeh, and the like is what we're aiming for. (Not spinach pie, gyro, Greek/Medit style.) We'd prefer to stay in Manhattan for tonight, but would also welcome suggestions for other boroughs for future reference. After going through Menu Pages, I've come to the conclusion that it's very difficult to pick out the actual seated/menu/waitress places from the counter/in-and-out/sandwich joints. Also, hookah bars aren't at all our thing... just to put that out there. (Too passe/kids trying to be chic/smoky atmosphere.) Thanks much, fellow foodies!
