Mid-Cape late season farmer's markets? Do such things exist?

Fargo | Jul 29, 2003 12:57 PM

I'll be down in Dennis for two weeks in late September/early October. Is anyone aware of any farmer's markets that are still open and worth visiting that late in the season? Usually by the time we get there, most of the roadside stands are reduced to pots of mums and dried corn bundles!!I realize that the Cape is not blessed with an abundance of locally-grown produce, even during peak season, but I'm hopeful that with all the yuppification might have come some interest in locally-grown stuff. It seems we always end up paying exorbitant prices for really mediocre fruits and veggies at really uninteresting places -- like Stop and Shop. Aside from the fancy place on the main road heading into Dennis (where I find them to be a little snotty and way over-priced) and the corn and tomato lady off the rotary in Mashpee, I'm really drawing a blank.

Also -- any recommendations for great local fish markets in the mid-Cape area? Many trips to the new Kreme 'n Kone are planned, but we will end up cooking in a fair bit of the time
