I live in a down and dirty industrial town in southern Oaxaca called Salina Cruz. One of my friends took me to an open-air restaurant on a beach about 20 minutes from town that has a ton of palm-roofed eating joints in a row. At the place we went, Chayon, you pick out your fish that has been caught an hour or less before and have them grill or fry it--either way it's fantastic. A hot day in the shade with this and cold, dark beer (I like Cerveza Indio) is pretty close to heaven. Most of the tourism around here stays in Huatulco, a resort town about two hours away. But this is best fish I've had on the southern coast. C'mon, don't be scared!
