Mex Ecco on Columbus review

Peter Flom | Sep 6, 2005 06:17 AM

There's a new Mexican place on Columbus and 83rd, with the ridiculous name of Mex Eco (or Ecco). Went there with my wife and kids yesterday, and was quite impressed. While they have not yet fully gottne up to speed, the food we had was quite good.

We started with the guacamole, mixed at table side. This was very good. We asked for medium spicy, and that's just what we got. The guy who made it was patient with showing our kids how it was made, too

I had the enchilidas verdes, which had a pleasant kick (although certainly not overwhelmingly so), and had a good balance of flavors. I also had the ensalada de nopalitos (cactus salad) which had chopped cactus and potatoes, and had also had a good balance of flavors.

My wife had enchilidas suizas, older son had the burrita (spelled that way on the menu - but the same thing as I have known as a burrito), and my other son the tacos (they were spicy for him, but he is odd about spicy, and only 3).

We will definitely be back; eager to hear what other hounds think, esp. those who know more of Mexican than I do.
