Meskerem, uptown and downtown

I have long loved Meskerem, the Ethiopian restaurant at 47th and 10th, and thought it to be the best Ethiopian food I have ever had out of several places. I tried the Greenwich Village location on MacDougal Street for the second time this weekend, and it's inferior to the 47th Street location on many scores, but mostly the food just doesn't measure up. Is this just me? What's the deal? Is it similar to Patsy's, where the East Harlem spot lends its name out but not its great pizza?
