Meridian 42 in Outer Banks-Report

We took a nice fall weekend to the Outer Banks and were lucky with this great warm weather and also with this find.

6 of us went to dinner at Meridian 42 in Southern Shores and all the meals were great. They call their food Coastal Mediterrenean which means lots of fresh seafood and unique housemade pastas. Bread comes with a plate of olives and olive oil to dip, then we moved on to salads. Half the table have the Boston lettuce salad and the other half the Caesar-both great with large crostinis on top brushed with some sort of cheese spread. Then we tried roasted grouper topped with crab and a side a cheesy polenta, glazed scallops with a fettucine frittata, salmon with (i think) a side of goat cheese gnocchi, a tagliatelli and braised veal. The last was the only disappointing dish not for the flavor which was divine but the underwhelming size and lame amount of veal in comparison to the other entrees. For dessert there was a lemon bread pudding with a white chocolate center, capuccino and chocolate thing in a martini glass, and well I forget what the 3rd dessert we had was.
The decor is kind of Tuscan mixed with Indonesian teak furniture and the kitchen brings new meaning to the term open kitchen. Nice deck seating also.

On the opposite side we had a very dissapointing meal at Sam n'Omies. Bad crabcakes, fresh tuna salad was not, and really poor service.
