Chef Mereday recently opened his 3rd restaurant in the area called Mereday's Brasserie located in Coconut Point Mall. We decided to eat at the bar and graze on a bunch of appetizers. This was the 1st of his restauants we tried and what little we had was impressive.
We started with a classic French frisee salad "au lardons", served of course with a soft boiled egg. We accompanied this with crispy frog legs and lemon garlic aioli. You may be disappointed but it didn't taste like chicken. The legs were nicely crispy and plump. Phil Shmidt would've been very happy(inside joke for those who know). We followed this with tasty roasted marrow bones and wonderful spicy smoked duck wings with habenero sweet and spicy sauce. The wings weren't nearly as hot as expected and barely sweet. Terrific. The big surprise was a dish from their bar menu-duck fat poutine. I've had 2 versions previously, both bad and vowed never again. Duck fat means all bets are off. The fries were served with duck gravy, mozzarella cheese curds, and pickled duck confit. The gravy was wonderfully ducky and the curds were flavorful and not too squeeky. This was fantastic. I've never had poutine in French Canada but they may want to take notes.
If you are at the bar, be sure to ask for Vinnie. He's as friendly as can be and was very knowledgable and helpful with the menu.
We will return to sample the entrees-and of course have a side of poutine.
