So Mercato has long been a place that I have wanted to try, but have never managed to get to. Tonight was the culmination of that longing. And I was not disappointed. In fact, I was enamored. Our table of 7 was seated just about on time. The volume in the dining room was pretty high, but it was nicely spaced so despite the noise, it didn't feel cramped.

The highlights:

App - Grilled Octopus, hands down. So perfectly cooked, with a nice salty component with capers and olives. Really large portion too.

Main - Short Rib Ragu. I've read other posts here and would wholeheartedly agree. This was not a ragu as I had thought it would be, but the portion was again great with large chunks of short rib over the ricotta gnocchi (tender and not heavy), with the sauce was rich and deep. So much so that it got me to request more bread to soak up all the deliciousness.

Parmesan veal cutlets were received well, but nothing to write home about. The filet was cooked perfectly tender with a delicious sauce as well. Scallops with the pea risotto also drew raves.

Dessert - Mascarpone Cheesecake. Really light, but enhanced quite a bit with the addition of a bite of the bittersweet molten chocolate cake.

Overall, the portion size, the very attentive service, and the quality of the food was outstanding, especially for RW. Definitely going to go back again. It gets an absolutely A in my book.
