Memphis BBQ in Sacramento

junior | Jun 6, 200506:12 PM

During the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee this year, I stayed at the Hawthorn Inn on Bercut Dr., right next to the "Memphis BBQ Company." Being a BBQ maven, I could not resist the opportunity to try the place...

It was great!!! The pulled pork sandwich was smoky, with just enough "bark" on the meat and was topped with a mustardy slaw. It reminded me of the pulled pork sandwich at the Pig Out Inn in Natchez--possibly the best I have ever had.

The fries were perfect for sopping up the tasty BBQ sauce.

There was a microbrewery right in the restaurant but I was unable to sample their homemade beer since I had to drive to one of the Jubilee performance sites.

Next time I play Sacramento, I'm going back to this place. It's the closest I've had to Memphis/Mississippi-style BBQ since I lived in the Magnolia State!
