I have guests (Mom and an old family friend) coming to town this weekend and am looking for a destination which will best show off Los Angeles' culinary chops. The guests in question have educated palates, but aren't fond of an excessively precious style (i.e. Bastide or Sona), or a setting which seems pretentious or overly formal (i.e. Diaghilev sp?). I'd like to take them somewhere which is fairly distinctly West Coast (AOC is out, as I'm going for Valentine's the next night).
I'm trying to decide between the above three places; presently I'm most torn between Josie and Melisse, as I know Josie is excellent, but Melisse looks to have a slightly more interesting menu. What's the ambience at Melisse? Any thoughts on Grace?
