Mediocre (at best) dinner at Chestnut

Went with a party of five. We all decided to try 5 different appetizers, entrees and desserts. Our waitress started by telling us there was no specials for the evening and in the same breath told us they had a special soup(???????. She took our orders and came back with a wrong appetizer. We had the spinach and beet.... which literally was just that. We had chicken liver with apples, grilled tuna with cilantro relish, chick pea pancake and the goat cheese and onion toast. Average taste.... no sauce or ceativity. The presentation was awful and everything seemed thrown together. The spinach leaves were huge and required cutting. Being that it was a salad, it was more of a nuisance to pick up a knife for that. Then the entrees came. We ordered hanger steak with fried yuca and watercress, grilled trout with olive stew and roast chicken with creamy polenta. The yuca was so tough and pasty. The trout was a little too "grilled" because it tasted like you were licking the grill slats...... too charred!!! The chicken was dry but polenta good. Then we ordered desserts and after dinner drinks. The dessert was ok. The only "great" thing was the blood orange sorbet. At the end of the evening we got the bill and asked our waitress if the desserts were compliments of the chef? We thought maybe it was but in fact she forgot to add them to the bill. The manager was also going around to all the tables to see how everything was but never once came to ours. You would expect that he would because we were such a large party and we ordered really well. He didn't even come over to apologize for any of the mishaps. All in all we had a pretty bad experience and don't think we'll ever go back.
