How would you like your meat cooked?

Hello. My name is Ethan, live in the San Fernando Valley, and this is my first post. I’ve been reading posts for quite some time and now I must contribute. Now for the meat…

I love a good Rib Eye. In fact, I’ve been told I do well with them on the bbq. I recently manned the que at a get together and made Rib Eye with my special seasonings. After bringing the first batch of steaks in there were a couple of people who told me they prefer their steak very well done. I started hearing adjectives like: scorched, burnt, black, crispy, and crunchy. I can’t explain how difficult it was to take perfectly good steaks back to the bbq and destroy them, just because some people don’t know any better. I went ahead and cooked those 2 well and returned. Upon seeing the steaks they politely asked if I can cook them some more. They wanted to see nothing but black. Back to the que I went and again returned, this time with a scorched mess. Those 2 people were happy.

All of the other folks ate theirs Medium Rare and were very pleased. Well done meat, as you probably know, burns off most of the fat that is marbled in the meat, eliminating much of the taste. Hope you don't mind that I vented a little.

People who like their meat scorched: don’t know any better or just a matter of opinion? Any thoughts?

Sorry about the length of this post. I’ll keep it shorter next time.
