McKnight Family House Fast Food?

Melanie Wong | Jul 18, 200304:09 AM

Got an excited chow call from my brother – “I finally got the barbecued turkey tails at McKnight’s!” He’s been trying various things on the menu since it opened a few months ago, but the elusive turkey tails had always been sold out. They’re four for $5 including fries that he says aren’t great. He described the tails as having a slight smoky flavor, brushed with barbecue sauce, and meatier than he expected. The texture of the meat reminds him of neck meat. There’s lots of skin and the fat is firm like ham fat.

He thinks Uncle Frank’s (also in East Palo Alto) ribs are superior, but the fried catfish is better here. I’ve tried some of his leftover catfish, and even cooled off, it shows potential. He also recommends the fried okra and green beans with smoked pork bits, but skip the potato salad.

Anyone else tried this place? Recommendations?
