I forgot to take pictures. This is one of only two locations in OC that have the create your own burger on the menu.
The create your own burger was $5.09 without tax. Bacon and some other things were additional. They have an iPad like kiosk where you can choose the bun, toppings, cheeses, sauces and number of patties. The burger is delivered to you in a steel basket that wouldn't be uncommon in other fast casual joints. The burger was a huge step up from any other fast food burger - Wendy's, BK or Carl's Jr. But a small step below 5 Guys and In N Out.
This new concept for McD is very different from what we all grew up with. There are hostesses with aprons who help take your order and deliver food to you. After you order you get a number and buzzer type thing. The buzzer doesn't buzz its so you can be located by the hostesses. The hostesses bring your food and whatever else you ask for - condiments, napkins, straws, refills, etc... All of the managers were wearing suits and ties or nice dresses. The inside didn't resemble any fast food joint you've ever seen. Very clean and modern. McD has been getting killed with struggling sales. This seems to be their answer to getting killed by Chipotle and other fast casual. The menu was also pared down heavily.
While I don't know if this will work all over the country when I infrequently eat McD I would definitely drive past 2 older McD on the way to this one.
