Fuji was closed for vacation this week, so my disappointed friend and I went up Route 130 N. a short distance and had lunch at Max's.
We were not disappointed in the "right on" prix fix lunch at $25. My friend's gnocci in a mild tomato sauce were luscious; similarly my baby clams, fresh spinach and homemade linguini. My friend's blackened grouper atop risotto and pesto was one heck of a dish; and my veal paillard atop risotto and roasted shallots was superb. The clue to authentic Italian experience lay in the risotto; comparable to that found in Italy.
Desserts were shared: chocolate souffle etc, and a light as air lemon cupcakey delight with much lemon zest. Saucing on entrees and desserts added to lovely presentation with rich taste.
Dinner entrees were similar, with pricing between $25-30; with appetizer prices between $8 and $14. Not an inexpensive restaraunt, but understated, quiet ambience; an oasis of tranquility on a busy industrial hiway. Lunch was a bargain for the quality presented.
