Maximito's in Albuquerque

Went to lunch at Maximito's on the east side of Broadway, a few blocks north of Avenida Cesar Chavez (road construction in this area is a real pain - Gibson, Broadway, ugh)

We were served right away on a lovely covered patio that, while right on Broadway, was quite quiet and secluded. A large basket of homemade tostadas and 3 kinds of salsa - mild (no heat, but tasty), medium (same ingredients with a slight hint of heat), and a chipotle/cream salsa were served immediately and with great fanfare. We were warned that it was extremely hot, but not so. Just a little bite. Rather bland, if you ask me. Of course, I eat chipotles right out of the can! (sometimes regret it, too!) When I told the server I could take more heat, she brought out a thick, dark "salsa" made with habaneros. Delicious flavor with a slow burning, intense but not overwhelming heat. My favorite.

One companion had the MahiMahi with cilantro cream sauce, which she enjoyed immensely. The plate came with sauteed vegetables - mostly sweet peppers.

The other companion ordered chicken enchiladas Suisas with a salsa verde made from tomatillos. These were delicious. Served with guacamole.

I ordered 2 chicken fire tacos, made with soft flour tortillas and served with chile con queso on top. I thought the chicken and the hot pepper blend inside the taco was delicious. The chile con queso was a little thin and rather bland, but overall, the tacos were very good. Also served with guac and sour cream. I cleaned my plate.

All plates had a mexican-style rice that was very well done - nice separate grains of rice with small bits of onion and pepper. Just a hint of tomato. The mexican style dishes also came with refried beans, which were a little too pureed and thin for my liking, but flavorful.

The desserts sound terrific - a Snickers chimichanga!
Didn't try it.

All in all, I will to go back to try more. This restaurant is convenient if you work in the TVI, Airport area, where we just don't have a lot of good options.
