Hi Everyone, I've been researching our splurge anniversary dinner on Maui on many sites. The Chowhound discussions are mostly older for Maui recs. We'll be on a babymoon and celebrating our wedding anniversary, so while we'll have wonderful meals every single night hopefully, I want to plan the "wow" in terms of ambiance/Romance/food triple threat for our actual anniversary night. (Note: I won't be able to have alcohol or raw fish/beef. Best believe I will have dessert!) Because it's Hawaii I'm putting more of an emphasis on view than I usually would. As for type of food, elevated local is what I'd prefer. I like to save Italian food for when I'm in LA (home) or in Italy.
For some reason a few weeks ago I felt confident the right answer was The Restaurant at Hotel Waliea. I cannot remember now where or what I what I read that convinced me it was the best combination of ocean views and fine dining, but whatever I read that night sold me. Now that I'm getting closer to booking, I poked around more and didn't see it mentioned here on Chow and saw some other contenders such as Merriman's and Mama's Fish House and possibly others. Also wondering if the view isn't stellar after all.
Please weigh in if you have been to TR@HW. I thought it would be romantic to spend one night in Waliea as well, we're staying in Lahaina. Of course this wouldn't have to be that night or THE splurge meal. Also if you've been to any other contenders in the past year or so.
Here's my list of places I'd like to hit, time permitting:
Paia Fish Market
Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop
Mama's Fish House $$$$
Nalu's South Shore
Tin Roof Maui
Roy's (I know but I loved it in Oahu and the ones in the US aren't as good)
