i took my bf to his choice for his birthday, mastro's. first off we were five minutes late for our reservation and called to tell them. of course that meant nothing, they gave away our corner table i had requested and we had to wait 40 minutes even though they said it would be ten minutes. now, the noise was deafening and the room was crowded ( not my scene at all) but i have to say the service and the food made up for it.
the warm pretzel bread and the parmesean crisps were delicious to start. my bf had a ceasar and i had the crab cake appetizer which was maybe the best i've had in l.a. hungry cat should learn from them. there were two rather large cakes with all crab and a yummy mixture of avacado and mixed greens underneath.
we shared the filet and the peppercorn ny strip (which they forgot to peppercorn and came over apologizing with fresh pepper, wasn't really the same) the steaks were amazing. blew my birthday steak at arnie morton's out of the water. the side dishes were just so so. we had creamed spinach and au grautin potatos. wish i would have orderd the gorgonzola mac and cheese. table next to me did and it looked decadent.
i was surprised. great meal, i don't mind paying if i'm getting the best. just won't go back on a weekend.
