Mariscos La Costa

Ken Hoffman | Jun 3, 200506:06 PM

There is a shopping plaza old at the corner of Monterey Highway and Senter in South San Jose that is pure gold. Tenants include Lee's Sandwiches (rapidly expanding everywhere), TK Noodle, a Chinese seafood place, a Mexican roast chicken (Pollo Rico)joint and a very good, very authentic free standing stand, Mariscos La Costa. They have an extensive selection of seafood cocktail and ceviche concoctions but we opted for the chicken torta and al pastor burrito and tacos. The torta was on very soft toasted Mexican bread roll and the bbq chicken was coated with crema fresca and perfectly ripe avocado slices. It was the uniformly soft and luxurious texture of the sandwich that was most remarkable. The tacos were served with lime slices and crunchy radishes and reminded me of the best street food in Mexico. The burrito was not to the level of the Mission's best but not all that far behind. Giant bottles of hot sauce are
on each table to keep you company.
