Read this in today's Calendar Weekend if anyone is interested:
--Mario Batali Dinner: The TV chef visits Campanile to cook with chef-owner Mark Peel on Friday. He'll be making a six-course menu using dishes from his new book, "The Babbo Cookbook." Copies will be on hand for signing. The menu, which will be available from 5:30 p.m. on, includes items like duck bresaola with pickled fiddleheads and red onion jam and braised beef short ribs with horseradish gremolata. Dinner costs $95. Campanile, 624 S. La Brea Ave., L.A.; (323) 938-1447; www.cam panilerestaurant.com.--
Also, for those of you who are interested, Mario Batali will be performing a cooking demo at the L.A. Times' Festival of Books this weekend at UCLA. I believe he will be there at 3:00 on Saturday. He is preceeded by Alton Brown (2:00) and Nobu Matsuhisa (1:00). They have demos every hour on the hour but those were the three guys I was most interested in so I can't remember who else will be there. I believe the Two Hot Tamales are cooking on Sunday. This is a great event as a whole, free for all (except for parking). There doesn't seem to be a schedule online but here's the link. Hope to see you there.
