Sub. maple syrup in Cinnamon-sugared Almonds

I like the flavor of maple syrup, but since it's liquid at room temp, I wonder if it wouldn't work so well.

The recipe I have uses cinnamon and sugar in a little water, along with a small amount of other seasonings. Heat til it thickens, stir in almonds to coat and continue heating until almost dry. Put on waxed paper and separate until cool.

Maybe I should just try subbing brown sugar for the sugar (even though it isn't quite the same as maple syrup)...
