manu-uws hell in a nutshell

borough homesick | May 20, 2002 01:32 PM

Manu is a newish Peruvian restaurant on the upper west side & my advice is unless you're a glutton for punishment, stay away! The portions redefine meager and the prices are stratospheric. For example, a $13 app of stuffed avocado presented as 1/2 of an unripened & bruised specimen w/3 tablespoons of insipid chix salad inside, garnished w/hard boiled egg (1/2) and Russian (!) dressing. An $18 combo app plate had 3 Lilluputian sized variations-on-a-sad-potato-theme and some pathetically bony stand-in for chicharrones. Every dish we ordered reflected the same uninspired combination of poor seasoning, stingy servings, and astoundingly high prices. With such nervy pretentiousness, these folks wouldn't stand a chance in most of Brooklyn.
