Manny's Place in Gateway Shopping Center - A great $5 lunch!

For those who live or work in the Wayne/Devon area or shop in the Gateway Shopping Center off Rt. 252 at Rt. 202, Manny's Place is the kind of chowish little gem this site was designed to share.

Primarily a combined freshly-prepared seafood restaurant and take out counter, they are known for their impressive lump crabcakes. However, the menu includes a wide array of absolutely fresh, all natural ingredient breaded seafood that is panko dipped, flash fried for only 10 seconds and then finished in the oven. Recipes are the creation of Chef Marc Mazzola - a CIA grad who apprenticed under LaCroix - and his insistence on quality ingredients puts Manny's several cuts above your standard breaded seafood. In addition, there are fresh salads, a dozen sides including garlic mashed potatoes, lobster mashed potatoes, mac&cheese, bruschetta tomato salad and more. BUT, it doesn't stop there. Manny also has marinated chickens on the rotisserie, home made chicken pot pies, wraps, full platters and a catering service. And they buy their bread from LeBus.

The deal of all deals, however, is the super lunch (11 until 2, M - F) for a five spot. My first visit, I had the double crabcake nuggets, bruschetta salad and a side of homemade slaw. This brought me back today to sample the rotisserie chicken. Yikes! I received an eye-popping, humongous half of a succulent roasted chicken, two colossal (i.e. two-inch thick) onion rings and a side of slaw. With a large Snapple, $7.10 sent me away stuffed and eager to return to try the shrimp and oysters.

Hounds, you must check them out at www.mannyscrabcakes.com or better yet, in person. They have two other places - Chestnut Hill Farmer's Market and Bala Cynwyd. If strapped for time and wanting to bring home ultra-fresh makings for a quick dinner, this is the place! And the lunch is unbeatable for the price.
