My wife and I are in the city for a few days, Dec 24-28, and are planning a dinner with friends & family on the 26th at Compass after reading the rave reviews here.
However, I'd also like to have some very good sushi, omakase if possible, somewhere new. Have been to Nobu & next door, wasn't impressed by Jewel Bako when I was there last (horrible service, accidentally overcharged by quite a bit on the check, found hair in my sashimi) and would like to try something new.
Uncle Zel's apartment is near Lincoln Center, so UWS is great, but really anywhere in Manhattan would be welcome.
So - any interesting/different sushi recommendations? I'm not picky - any kind of place is good, as long as the fish is clean and fresh and delicious. Not a lot of divey sushi bars, but that'd be fine too. It's all about the food.
I'm also looking for a great non-greasy dim sum place - my wife's gall bladder removal was precipitated by greasy dim sum in Oakland, CA and she's gunshy - so if someone can recommend a good dim sum place, Chinatown or anywhere, that has a lot of nice fresh & steamed stuff, that'd be great too. Thank you chowhound friends!
