My friend and I were looking for a place today for lunch. Per LAX2MIA, I thought we would try Maino. We arrived arround 12:15-12:30. What looked good on paper from the internet, looked incredible in person for a restaurant in that area. I don't think one thing was left untouched when it came to the construction and decor.
We went inside and we were the first ones for lunch other than a few guys at the bar that appeared to be tourists. We were not offered a menu as there is not much to choose from. You either did the Mini Rodizio (think Porcao), where they come table side to carve some meats for you (28.88 - a little pricey for lunch) that included the salad bar (or you could get the salad bar alone for 19.88). I am not a huge meat eater so it was a little much to have all the different meats they served, including:
Pork Loin, Chicken Breast Wrapped in Bacon, Sirloin, Flank Steak, Chicken Hearts (strange as an offering, but I love that stuff) and Sausage. Not sure if I missed anything because it seemed like it was never ending. My friend thought all the meats were very good other than a dry piece here and there of the Flank Steak. The included salad bar with the Rodizio included a variety of salad bar fare, including artichoke hearts, mozarella and tomato salad, and on and on. It also had a hot penne pasta with meat sauce and a warm fish dish (OK). You also get a choice of sides, I assume as much as you wanted, it included, rice, beans, fries, fried banana (literally a banana not plantains), and Brazilian Farofa, which was a powdery substance that you placed on your meat like a chimichurri.
They had the little cards like Porcao that said please continue (serving meat) or thank you (please stop). We thought it would have been a better selection for dinner. They offer a larger serving apparently of 15 cuts of meat. , The way I feel right now, I am having a Turbo Coffee from Dunkin' Donuts for dinner and that is it, after my afternoon nap on top of my desk in my office.
Service was ok, as you served yourself from the salad bar and the waiters came around with the meat. If you are an iced tea guzzler like I am, be careful as it was not free refills. They do have a full bar and I did not look at the wine list as it was not an option for me at lunch time or I would have really been done. I think they would have been better to start out at dinner, but as our lunch continued there were at least 5 tables sat including us and another table of 6 people when we left at 1:30pm. Final total? 79.00 with the added 15% gratuity.
We will definitely go back for dinner. I hope all the $$$ they put in to the location will pay off!
