Over the past 2 days, I've gone to Magasin Cafe 3 times. Yesterday, I sat at the counter and had vermicelli with grilled pork and took a grilled pork bahn mi to go. The noodle bowl was simple, fresh, and good. It didn't blow me away, but I think it was the simple nature of the dish. The bahn mi, which I ate about 4 hours later, was AWESOME.
When they opened today for lunch at 11am today, I went and placed an order to go- brisket pho, spring rolls with grilled shrimp cake, pork bun, and their deli special bahn mi. I asked what deli special was and was told, "pork in various forms." Good enough for me! It was all excellent.
I called in an order before 6pm to pick up when they opened, and got the pork stir fry noodles (good, but maybe not the best choice for takeout), shiitake mushroom spring rolls, and 2 bahn mi: garlic fried tofu and BBQ pork. I just love their bahn mi- the bread is a fresh and delicious french baguette, the vegetables are well seasoned/pickled, and everything else in there is just pure awesomeness.
Almost every item is under $10; the ingredients are super fresh and prepared well; they seem to be working very hard to get the service up to speed- I think they were pretty unprepared for how popular it got almost immediately.
Oh man, I wish I'd gotten another bowl of pho for dinner.
Website: http://www.magasincafe.com/. I know they open for lunch at 11 and for dinner at 6. Not sure when service closes for each period, though. It's just before Napoleon heading uptown. It is already wildly popular, for good reason, in my opinion.
