We've been given a rare opportunity to do daily lunches around the city. (Husband had foot surgery giving him a month off ). I will post as I get the time. First stop: LAKEVIEW HARBOR. Heard same owners as POC, same food, no wait .We went late (3pm lunch). They're open from 11AM continuously. Place had only 2 other diners. Burgers were smaller, tasteless and overcooked. Baked potato looked and tasted as if it sat around all day and been reheated. I'll do the POC wait anytime. RIOMAR: Oysters Riomar, best selection of the lunch. A very flavorful and filling Spanish style oyster dressing. Hangar steak with chimmichurri sauce and yucca fries was a close second. Steak was med rare and the sauce was an excellnt foil. We had 2 pressed sandwiches, eggplant/peppers (bland) andSpanish muff. (serrano ham, chorizo manchego, olive salad). Extremely salty( to the point where all other ingredients were not discernable). Gulf Fish Escabeche (Mahi Mahi). A thin fillet with cold peppers, capers and olives in a vinagrette. Not as tasty as it sounds, but ok. Husband had a Bloody Mary (ok), I had a glass of wine. Pre tip total around $50. We were stuffed. CAFE GRENADA: 4 diners. Best offering, Croquettas de Gamba. Shrimp/crab cakes in bechamel. coated in bread crumbs, fried and served with a red pepper puree. This combination worked. We ordered another. Mussels in a spicy red sauce. Nice size portion with bread for mopping the spicier than you'd expect sauce. Zucchini pockets. Thin slices rolled aroud tasteless smoked salmon and cheese Hot eggplant stack with balsamic onions was mediocre, same for beef empanadas which were in an unusual sort of puff pastry and fried,. Potatas Bravas. A good preparation of a standard, with plenty of sauce. Cheese and fruit plate. Swan apples, grapes, Bleu (best), brie (poor ) and manchego(poor) served with a tasteless "yellow" sauce. Cheese was too cold. Cheese croquettas. Four very tiny, breaded goat chesse balls served with same "yellow" sauce. Nothing like the excellent ones at Mimis. We had a carafe of Sangria which was watery. All this for a mere $60 pre tip. CAFE MINH. We went around noon Fri.. Restaurant was about half full. By the time we left it was packed, with a waiting line. Waiter said Friday lunch is always busy. Restaurant has a light, upbeat feeling. Portions are huge. All entrees could easily feed two. Appetizers were spring rolls (fried crispy )with a chicken filling . Light and pleasant. Beggars purses were bland and gummy served only with dark soy. Husband orded the open face crispy eggplant with nice thick slices of fresh mozzarells. Pretty straight forward and bla (he can't pass up an eggpant offering). I had the tempura chicken served atop rice noodles and baby greens with an unassertive citrus vinagrette. A very mildly seasoned dish. Not your traditional tempura (think crispy breading). Two iced teas, pre tip $50. Service at all restos was prompt except Cafe Minh, which was incredibly busy.
