Five of us Chowhounds and newbies, had lunch at China Gourmet in Fairfax. It was a total success. We had delicious dan dan noodles (very spicy and "numbing"), boiled peanuts, sesame chicken, and Sichuam pickle to start. The Sichuan pickle was a vegetable that is called wo sun in Chinese but Roe looked it up and found that it is called Celtuce or asparagus lettuce in English, very interesting. For the rest of the meal we ordered ribs with "golden powder", also delish, fish in a bamboo basket, (I am not sure what the basket is for but the fish is delicately fried with just a hint of spice in the batter), and ma po doufu (very spicy and numbing also superb). The only dish I wasn't blown away by was the chicken, it was a typical roast chicken, but all in all a very good lunch. The service was fine and we got everything we ordered, and they kept us supplied with tea and ice water. Very satisfying and we all said we would go back again (and again)!!
