Lunch at the Spa at Safety Harbor

Coyote | Oct 24, 200406:01 PM

I had an Entertainment Club coupon to use up before expiry and decided to lunch at the Spa. At two for one pricing on ten dollar entrees I was pretty happy, but likely would not have been thrilled paying full price. We split a steak sandwich and an entree order of crab cakes. The crab cakes did have discernible crab, but were kind of loose, falling apart on the plate. They came with plantains, read one quarter of a small plantain, and some jicama slaw that really didn't have a lot of flavor. The steak sandwich featured goat cheese and grilled peppers and onions and was made with what I believe was London Broil. The meat was fairly rare with quite a nice char. I'd have preferred the steak more thinly sliced; it was a little chewy and so more of a knife and fork sandwich than one to pick up. It was served with potato chips. Call me crazy, but for ten bucks I kind of think fries could be included. On the menu, fries are an additional $2.75. Anyway, the white dinner rolls and butter that came with the meal were fine, although I always think it is funny that a spa doesn't have a whole wheat or other offering. The dining room is pretty enough but somewhat outdated in appearance. The service was pretty slow, although there seemed to be lots of servers running around, we had quite a long wait to order, for the food, for the bill. In fairness, they were very busy. Here is the funny part - about half of the customers lunching beside us were wearing bathrobes! It was most disconcerting! These people didn't seem all that thrilled to be mixed in with us either!

Spa at Safety Harbor, Main Street and N. Bayshore. The restaurant is 105 North.
