Lunch at Lupa

I finally indulged a long-standing craving of mine and had a meal at one of Mario Batali's restaurants, Lupa on Thompson St. I have been a fan of his ever since I started watching Molto Mario on tv, and have thrown more dinner parties making his dishes than any other single source. Anyway, I had lunch there today (solo, unfortunately, since my friend backed out last minute) and had a WONDERFUL meal. His gnocchi always look so much better on tv than the way I make them, so I of course started with them, in a fennel and sausage ragu. Exquisite, especially with the Ramitello di Majo Norente wine that washed it down. The main course was a crispy duck with roasted grapes--I have never had such a crispy, yet juicy, duck, and those grapes were out of this world--they provided a nice sweetness to the salt of the duck. Dessert was a tartuffo with hazelnut-chocolate sauce and biscotti filling. What a wonderful meal! I showed my appreciation by going to his wine shop and buying several bottles for the cellar, too...
