Lozoo -- Soho Chinese looks promising

AFter suffering through myriad crummy Chinese meals in this town, I was a bit wary of this new place on Houston and McDougal, Lozoo. But it's run by one of the former partners in Kelley & Ping, (Li Ping) so it sounded promising. The answer is that it's great. This is *not* Mott Street Chinese. Very high end, great food and service and scene. Tea smoked chicken (one of my favorite foods) was good (though a bit salty). Liked the minced bass and pomelo appetizer, wrapped in lettuce leaves. Entrees run $14-$19; apps, $7-$11. A very hip and beautiful room. The back room has soundproofing, so will probably be the best place to sit. I was there on the 3rd night so it wasn't crowded, but the front room will definitely be noisy. This is well worth a try.

And definitely wash your hands when the leave the bathroom. It's the strangest plumbing setup I've ever seen. The water comes out of the mirror....
