Four of us had a wonderful meal on Friday at Via Matta. Great food and low key service with no presumptuous attitude. Salads were perfectly (not over)dressed and the octopus was especialy yummy, while the shaved mushroom salad was perfect with the earthy mushroom aromas playing off the lemon scented dressing and fine truffle oil and grana. Next time we'll try the crunchy eggplant. The paglia and fieno pasta was chowed heavily as was their version of cioppino, they call it Cacciucco of East Coast Shellfish. Chock full of shellfish and quite zippy. One of us had a baby grilled lamb, different from the typical lambchops we're used to seeing--more like an osso buco cut if that even makes sense, but grilled to perfection. The home made almond cannolis with ricotta and chocolate oranges were so good and not heavy like the north end versions can be, and a generous portion of 3; two of us who did not order desserts wer offered a taste of a delightful strawberry gelati that was wonderful! Wine by the glass made sense for us with the vaired meals, we had a great time and ended up at $100 plus tip per couple. Very good meal, excellent service, strongly recommended!
