We went to Benoit Friday night and had a fantastic time! It was BYOB, lack of liquor license, so we visited our favorite wine shop, appellation, on our way to mid-town. I read some reports that it was expensive, but compared to other restaurants in the area it was a fantastic bargain. The onion soup is top notch, if not iconic - better than balthazar's and just as good as artisanal's but not as sweet, lots of cheese that lasted to very last spoonful. All portions were generous. We both did the duck which was done wonderfully and also added on sides of fries and pasta. Everything was great! This is iconic french cooking. Nothing experimental, just the old brasserie standbys all done excellently. Loved it! Perfect for lunch after the MOMA.
