Lou on Vine report

Went to Lou last night after reading some posts... Sorry to say, it just wasn't all that great, and certainly not worth the $.

Wines: we ordered reds from Portugal (the cheap option) and Sicily (A bit higher end) that were pretty much indistinguishable and both mediocre.

The goods: Pig candy was quite tasty. Olives (especially those giant green ones, whatever they're called) and almonds were well-selected. Enjoyed the anchovies and peppers.

The bads: The cheese plate, while yummy, was so very small, as per previous postings. I mean, as small cuts as small could be. Frisee salad had tiny bits of bacon, not at all lardons, and was all in all kind of a zero. Biggest disappointment though was the pork shoulder with risotto. Totally overcooked pork to the point of pretty much no flavor, and the risotto may, in fact, have had an entire stick of butter in it. Yuck.

Servers were nice, and the guy I assumed to be Lou was as friendly as could be. The location is especially weird... a corner of a minimall, next to a laundromat. But I agree with a previous poster -- you spend nearly $100, you shouldn't have to eat when you get home. There was so little food!!! Seriously, for that kind of $, stick with Vinotecca or AOC, which are both far superior (I'm kind of shocked that there aren't more raves about Vinotecca -- they're truly pulling it off). Someday, months from now, I'll give Lou another try to see if it improves. But overall, a big disappointment.
