Loteria for the last time...

Dommy! | Apr 15, 200502:02 AM

It's finally softball season! YAY!! And luckily every now and again we play games at Pan Pacific Park, right next to the Farmer's Market! YAY!!

Last night was one of those games and my first stop in a series of Farmer's Market Reviews was Loteria...

Now, I have been to Loteria several times, and have tried several of their items. Each time, I've come away disappointed (and sometimes MAD!!) I really WANT to like it (They make their own tortillas, use wonderful authentic ingredients...) so I gave it another shot using the hound recs of trying the Mushrooms, Meatballs, and soup.

Two small tacos and a VERY small bowl of soup... $10.00... Eh... I was starting to feel disappointed again...

First up... Meatballs, technically Albondigas in Chipotle Sauce. Now, I'm not a big fan of Chipotle, but I had nothing to worry about since I could barely taste it! The sauce had no heat no smoke! The meatballs were VERY soft in texture (Like those supermarket meatballs all full of filler! :/). There was no taste of meat, instead it was oddly herbal! Strike One...

Next... the Mushrooms with Epazote. I LOVE mushrooms, but I was a bit worried about the Epazote, it's a VERY strong herb... But upon first bite, there was hardly a trace of it. It was actually pretty bland. Further, the texture of this filling is even SOFTER. It would probably be a pretty decent side dish (If you add more pepper to it) but it totally didn't work as a taco filling. It made the tortilla fall apart and imparted NO flavor... :/ Strike Three...

Finally... the soup, which was a Tortilla Soup. It was the perfect thing to try on a very windy night! Served piping hot, so it was still VERY warm. I lifted the lid and the aroma of herbs and spices totally made me smile. The texture was very smooth, there were two perfect slices of buttery Avocado. I took one sip and WOW!! It tasted as good as it smelled and looked. Hmmm.... I finally found something that made me totally smile... and then giggle because it tasted totally like the Tortilla Soup I make at home... :D So, base hit... LOL! :D

I have pretty much gone through the whole menu at Loteria now (Anything I haven't tried I KNOW I won't like...) and I'm done. Our next game at Pan Pacific is late next month and I can't wait (Perhaps I'll try Magee's Corned Beef Plate! :D)

Oh... we won our game btw! YAY! :D
