Lost 22 Pounds By Eating-Out!

Silverlaker | Sep 1, 200502:44 PM

So I lost 22 pounds recently (last 3 months). And when I'm dieting, the quality of the food is actually more important than when I'm not since I want all my calories to count. Anyway, I thought I'd share my fav east-side tips for those who may be trying to lose a few pounds...

(Btw, I concentrated on eating protein, fruits & vegetables -- allowing myself one starch a day and yes, I have a nutritionist. I also allowed myself pasta once a week with arrabiata or marinara sauce. And I worked-out about four to five times a week.)

Okay, so here's my favs:

COMFORT CAFE -- I've talked about this endlessly on the board. If you don't know about this place, do a search. I eat here about 3-5 times a week. I live on their silverlake salads with an option of salmon, flank steak or chicken -- all of which I can eat on my plan. Turkey meatloaf w/ veggies, also, awesome!

Mexican food -- believe it or not, I eat a lot of this. The key is to go places where the chips suck since chips are me down-fall! There's no way I'm going to Casa Vega (my fav) unless I'm going off my plan.

LA PARRILLA: I get the TACOS GOBERNADORA PLATE - a shrimp stew that's yummy. I ask them to take out the celery (I don't think it really works with the dish) and add mushrooms. There's also cheese which, depending, I take off or not. I don't eat the rice & beans, they'll substitute a salad but the dressing is pretty generic. I allow myself one corn tortilla which they make on the premises.

You can also get some grilled dishes here, a sort of step up from fajitas, which work on a high-protein diet.

EL CHAVO: Not my favorite Mexican restaurant but they have good tostadas (and their chips SUCK -- yeah!). They come in 2 mini tostadas -- I get one chicken, one beef, ask for simple corn, non-fried tortillas, and go easy on the beans. I keep the guac and sour cream on since my downfall are more the carbs/starches.

MADAME MATISSES: How much do I adore this place!
For brunch (note -- somtimes I combine breakfast & lunch to allow for a few more calories): I either get a humongous mushroom egg-white omelette w/ easy cheese or, when I want to treat myself, get one blueberry pancake, egg-whites & one piece of bacon. Yum!

LUNCH: They have a veggie sandwhich which I eat half and get a side of fruit salad.

DINNER: They have a white-fish dish which is great. Try to get sauce on side. I also get a side of brocollini, lightly sauteed.

DA GIANNINO: Few days ago, got red snapper, baked in tomato sauce with veggies on side (yum!). Often they have white fish. Yum2. And there's always pasta. On my plan, I don't combine starches w/ protein so I would get pasta w/ marinara sauce or something like that -- meaning pasta w/ sausage is a no-no.

AROMA: Newish Italian on Sunset -- I pretty much try to get what I'd get at DG.

MICHELANGELO'S: Ditto above though lately it's been really noisy so we haven't gone here as much.

PALERMOS: I get the chicken caccitore which is pretty good and instead of pasta, get a side of brocolli lightly sauteed (I can't stand steamed so I get them to lightly sautee it).

MAZARRIOS: Though this is in Sherman Oaks, thought I'd add it since they have a much better chicken caccitore than Palermo's and their veggies are much better too. We love this place.

CHI DYNASTY: Very diet friendly. They have chicken veggie soup which you can get an indiv portion. They have this shrimp dish w/ egg-whites & veggies. You can order protein & veggie dishes with easy oil. Their string-beans rock! But it's pricey. We still adore it though.

ZANKOU: Get the chicken 1/4 plate -- instead of hummus get a salad. I forgo the bread (which ain't that great sans hummus).

vermont: Always has a good lite fish entree or chicken dish on their menu which seems to change a bit.

CAROUSEL (Glendale): If I'm going to eat some starches (like the pita bread), I try to get shrimp since it's SO low in cals. I get the shrimp kabob which ain't real filling since substitute veggies for the rice. But the salads that it comes with are huge so that fills me up. Also dinner comes with crudite.

BLAIRS: Okay, if I'm going to Blair's ALL BETS ARE OFF! So we haven't gone in 3 months. Looking forward to once I get 10 more pounds off me!

Okay, I'll stop now. Hope this helps someone out there!!!!
