There may be a new sheriff in town on the Roxboro Rd. tacqueria scene. Ther are next to the KFC near the Roxboro Avondale intersection. On their sign they claim "Best chargrilled tacos in town." With a claim like that I had to try. Hopes were immediately raised when I say an old Mayan looking lady pressing tortillas and cooking them on a griddle. Young, attractive Hispanic ladies were taking orders, running into the kitchen and pulling hot, steaming tortillas off the stack, loading them with the meat of choice, and piling on the requisite chopped cilantro and onion. I got three carne asada tacos and they indeed had a delicious grilled flavor. The fresh made tortiallas make such a huge difference: soft and pillowy, almost melts in your mouth. The condiments bar doesn't have quite the variety that Super does but satisfactory nonetheless. They had two homemade drinks, horchata and jamaica (Super usually also has strawberry and pinapple) but they had a wide variety of bottled drinks on ice (why do drinks on ice taste better?). The Boing Guyaba I went for was the perfect accompaniement for the tacos. The most pleasant surprise was the owner came by and asked me how the service was, what they could do to improve it, etc. Other than having staff that could speak English I couldn't think of anything-- and I wasn't about to be a jerk and say that to him.
I wished him good luck on his new endeavor and went on my merry way with a very satistified tummy. Check this place out if your in the area.
