Longshot search for great San Diego kung pao at a tiny place

Back in the early 80s I went to college in San Diego and enjoyed the most excellent Kung Pao shrimp dish.
Well this kung pao, I've never tasted anything like it before or since. It was served in a tiny hole-in-the wall place nestled on the east side of the supermarket on Linda Vista (cross street is or is near Convoy, I think...there was a firehouse nearby also). Just an incredible taste, and some crunchy vegetable similar to celery along with the peanuts etc. I think the nice ladies who ran the outfit were Viet-Chinese, which might explain why this dish was so unique. Anyway, if someone happens to recognize this place and knows where if anywhere they ended up I'd love to hear it.
