London--St. John's vs. St. John Bread and Wine?

I'll be in London for a few days in February and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the original branch of St. John's vs. the newer St. John Bread and Wine.

Not entirely sure where I'm staying yet--have a hotel booked in the Marylebone area, but a friend who lives near King's Cross may have her spare basement flat (people have such things in central London?!) available. I'll most likely be dining by myself, lunch vs. dinner as yet undecided. If I'm staying with the friend, it looks like the original St. John's is closer, although neither is far.

Is either one significantly more comfortable for the solo diner? Does service/quality of food vary much? I've read elsewhere that the management seems to be focusing on Bread and Wine at the moment, making it the better bet; is that the case? (Menus look relatively similar, although it looks like Bread and Wine may have less of a fixed menu, with things rotating in and out more often.) And is either area particularly interesting to poke around in before/after a meal?

Any input is appreciated.
