We just returned from Christmas in London; thanks to all who gave advice over the fall. We ate several times at my daughter's local pub in Brook Green (Hammersmith), the Angel's Head, and made a trek to the Dove. I had fish and chips at both and the local was vastly superior. We did eat at Mohsen (thank you, howler) and quite enjoyed it. We went for numerous starters (selected by the waiter) and then kebabs and the tuesday night special which was a lamb and bean stew. Very tasty and not expensive. Biggest surprise was Bombay Brasserie (again, thank you howler). And who said it was shabby? The prices were kind of eye-popping, but given the quality, we couldn't begrudge it! Also had several lower-end Indian meals (more like what we've eaten over the years in our leaner, less sophisticated days, years ago) at Moti Mahal and found it quite good! Although clearly not of the same quality as Bombay Brasserie. Christmas Eve we had a lovely meal at the House on the Bridge in Windsor, Chrismas day we stuck to the buffet in our hotel (mediocre, we'll plan farther ahead next time), and boxing day we were back at Kate's local for another excellent meal. Anyway, thanks to all who gave advice, both to me directly and to others (and thus me indirectly). Now if her job just gets extended another year, we can start planning for next Christmas.
