Logan Square Gentrification and the ruin of food.

Well, this is old news to most of you 'heads on here.

We were getting a late, quick meal at El Cid on kedzie and milwaukee in Logan Square tonight. The guacamole was wonderful as it seems the avocados are FINALLY ripe...what a difference.

Anyway, the only people in the joint are yuppies/drunk yuppies ordering one thing only: burritos.

Just 6 months ago I remember seeing a mixed crowd.

Anyway, the thing that really hit home with us were the two broads who sat behind us. I being a chowhound had to listen to them order:

"Is there LARD in your refried beans?" (translation: we dont want flavor in our food)

waitress: "what?"

me: "WTF?"

anyway, just illustrated to me first hand how the dumbing down/yuppifying of our fine ethnic establishments occurs. Very sad.

I hope El Cid can withstand the pressure to remove the flavor from the food.

Not that they are particularly wonderful, but the servers are always very nice and I have found the place to be reliable.

thanks for listening to my vent.
