Local source for Pappy Van Winkle?

Any leads on a good local source for Pappy Van Winkle? Finally had the 23 year old at a friend's place last week, but will be happy with the 15 year old as well.

I just had some 15 y.o. in Kansas City, which doesn't help, but Hard Water's list says they have it:

No sightings of any pappy at Cask, K&L, or Wingtip, but at this time of the year, you'd be buying bottles from last year's distribution. This year's is coming up in ~2 months.

I just posted about Wingtip's policy on this and basically, it goes to the regulars/big spenders.

I asked at K&L on Saturday and they told me that they only sell it to folks on their list who have been buying it for a long time.

You might have better luck going to a bar that pours it and offer to pay for an entire bottle this way. I've asked at Bloodhound and one other bar that I can't remember that both seemed amenable to that idea ... for the Pappy 13 Rye, it would have come out to ~$450. But you better be ready to pay up.

Yes, but when did your friend buy the 23-yr PVW? Before 2012, when the last of the Stitzel-Weiller reserve ran out? 

Hard to believe, but I never used to have any trouble finding/buying PVW 23 before it became the "hot" liquor of fashionistas. I even gave it to two friends as Xmas gifts one year. Mind you, it's a great bourbon, but even with our free-spending ways no bottle of alcohol is worth that much, whether Pappy or Old Rip. 

If you're going for younger bottlings than the 23, then just FYI, Old Rip's offerings rate higher with bourbon aficionados.

BevMo has Pappy on a first-come, first-served basis. People call daily in Oct (each store has its own stock date) then line up outside the BevMo door on the day it hits the shelf. I haven't bothered, but I'd assume it's probably 15 mins to sell out of all PVW bottlings.

After four bourbon tastings at Pican/Oakland, we've settled on the Jefferson, VSB or the 10yr straight rye. We stock both in our liquor cab. J subs vanilla for the corn flavor of Pappy, but the wonderful balance and long, smooth finish is amazingly similar. Beautiful sipping whiskeys, both of them, and very reasonably priced.
