I came upon this place while looking for a nice place to eat in Portsmouth,NH this past saturday night. We got there about 9pm and the place was booked solid so we decided to eat at the bar upstairs. The place looked like an old sailors bar that has been around for 200 years. I loved it already! We each had a glass of Merlot..I forget the label but that was $8.00 per glass. It was nice. For an appetizer I had escargot with a creamy mushroom reduction sauce....had to be the best appetizer I ever had in my life. I could easily have made a meal out of this alone. My friend lapped up the sauce with the remaining bread. He had seared yellowfin tuna with white beans and capers salad. Now,I really don't like fish but when I tasted this it tasted liked steak and I am not lying. I would definitely try this all to myself the next time. For dinner I had tenderlion with dijon mashed potatoes and a brandy reduction sauce and it was done perfectly to my liking. I could not finish this myself(sorry,I am weak) but my friend ate the rest for me. He had Filet of beef with chevre baked en croute with an arugula, mango salad. I think I liked this better than my dish..this is what I am getting the next time. For dessert we both shared the Medium Rare Chocolate Cake with a berry coulis and fresh whipped cream. I liked this..it wasn't too sweet.
If you ever get the chance to go up here make sure you try this place. I wish it was located in my hometown!!!!
