L'Imperio update and warning

Faren | Mar 29, 2003 10:38 AM

Went to L'Imperio for the first time last night and we all had a great time. As has been so often mentioned we had the four courses for $49.00. Agnolotti stuffed wuth fois gras and duck; farfalle with tiny peices of sweet breads, grilled scallops; fagiolini and goat cheese salad; lobster app (which my husband did not share at all but said was great); sliced tender sirloin served on top of braised short ribs (unbelievable); rare tuna with red lentils; a moist roast chicken with crispy skin ; chocolate soup; cheeses etc. Great wine. This is a great deal. WHile they warn you the portions are a bit smaller than when ordered on the a la carte menu the size was more than adequte and we could barely finish dessert (and my husband and brotherinlaw have very healthy appetites) All great, but here is the warning - L'Imperio has the most uncomfortable banquettes I'ver ever sat on. The cushion literally sinks the sitter way below where it is comfortable to eat at a table. My sister and I made our husbands sit on these and both complained that by meal's end their backs hurt. So, yes I will definitely return, but will specifically ask not to be seated at a banquette (the chairs on the other hand were quite comfortable)
