Lime Leaves

In reading the LA Board thread on a certain variety of lime leaf and racial slurs, I became curious about this plant and other names for it and began poking around on the web.

I found this fascinating website called Gernot Katzer's Spice Pages, which lists the following synonyms (particularly helpful when shopping in markets of various ethnicities) which should enable anyone to talk about these lime leaves without the slurs:

Burmese: Shauk-nu, Shauk-waing
Chinese: Suan gan yet
Danish: Kaffir lime
Dutch: Kaffir limoen, Djeroek poeroet
English: Indonesian lime leaves, Wild lime
French: Limettier hérissé, Combava
German: Kaffernlimette, Indische Zitronenblätter, Indonesische Zitronenblätter, Kaffirzitrone, Kaffirlimette
Hungarian: Kaffir citrom és levél, Kaffercitrom
Indonesian: Daun jeruk purut
Hmong: Mav naus
Khmer: Kraunch soeuth
Laotian: Kok mak khi hout
Malay: Daun limau purut (leaf), Limau purut (fruit)
Thai: Bai makrut
Vietnamese: Chanh sac, Truc
